Ask Laura About DMOZ

One of my regular readers wrote about her troubles with getting indexed and included over at DMOZ. DMOZ is a great ’search directory’ to be listed in – it almost ensures 100% google inclusion!

Can’t Get Listed on DMOZ – Ask Laura (December 2, 2004)

Dear Laura:

I don’t think this (has much to do with) you, but in case it does: I submitted my website …url removed… to DMOZ about 6 weeks ago. The section was Society: People: Women: Business. Last I checked it wasn’t up yet.

dmoz (because it is run by people and not robots) can be slow.

Does your preferred section have an editor? If there is a link on the dmoz directory page requesting that an editor apply for that section then that section is without a human editor and who knows when you may be included! If that’s the case you might try looking for a different search directory of dmoz. (I will keep my eyes open for you…)

Depending on which dmoz pages you have landed on, top level directory listing or sub-directory listing, you may also find that the link to suggest a site or suggest a url is missing. Again, another indication that the category you are targeting is without an editor. Keep drilling down into the sub categories and directories until you find a suitable listing page with the suggest a site link in the top navigation bar (most often at the top of the page – the links at the bottom of the page don’t always work).
